Of the three trout species found in Iowa, only the Brook Trout is native to the state. They’re not technically trout at all! Brook Trout are actually Char, closely related to Lake Trout, Arctic Char, and Dolly Varden.

These fish thrive in the cold, clean, spring-fed streams of Northeast Iowa’s Driftless Area, a perfect environment for their survival.
When you purchase a trout fishing license, you’re also supporting vital efforts in habitat conservation, stream restoration, and trout hatchery facilities.

You can find these incredible fish in the newly installed trout stream in the Mississippi River Center.
