Wood Ducks are cavity nesters and will utilize holes in trees as much as 50 feet high to lay their eggs! When the ducklings have to jump down to their mother, their thick downy coat prevents injury in a typically leaf-covered forest floor, so they bounce.
While migratory, these ducks can be found year-round in the southern United States and are one of the few duck species able to perch on branches!
