On July 4, 1876, torrential rains caused a dam on Catfish Creek to fail, unleashing a flood that destroyed Rockdale near Dubuque. It became Iowa’s deadliest forgotten disaster. Using art, photos, and heirlooms, historians reconstruct the tragedy.
