Our largest freshwater habitat, this three-sided aquarium is nine feet deep, holds more than 30,000 gallons, and represents some of the biggest fish species of the Mississippi River, including sturgeon, catfish, and gar.

The habitat shows three different manmade environments common on the Upper Mississippi River today. The main channel is one that is dredged to a 9ft depth that supports barge commerce. Behind it are representations of a manmade flooded forest, created by dredging for the main channel and not to be confused with a naturally occurring seasonally flooded forest, and a wingdam built to control the flow of water.
