When a group of teens with a shared passion for stewardship come together, they can make amazing things happen in a community.

The National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium is proud to host such a group: Teens Take C.A.A.R.E. (Conservation Action through Advocacy, Research, and Engagement). This is a student-driven, student-led program that engages teens in exploration, stewardship, and scientific inquiry through the River Museum.

Throughout the year, teens come together for a variety of activities including kayaking, a night hike, a career panel, going behind-the-scenes- at the River Museum, and more! Additionally, teens who participate will collaborate in partnership with Dubuque County Conservation on a passion project of their choosing that they will develop and execute throughout the year. Past projects have included planting a pollinator garden, creating a sustainability document to help local businesses reduce their environmental impacts, and advocating to the Parks and Rec Commission to inspire John J. Bergfeld Park to go pesticide free.
