Where to Find

Down in the Delta, National Rivers Center

Cownose rays live in tropical and temperate seas feeding on mollusks, shrimp, and small fish. Cownose Ray teeth form a crushing plate to be able to get through the shells of their prey. Barbs found at the base of their tails can be used in self-defense; however, the barbs on those at the Museum & Aquarium have been trimmed and do not pose a risk. Trimming of the barbs is similar to trimming a fingernail and does not appear to hurt the animal.

Did you know you can touch the cownose rays at the Down in the Delta Touch Tank, and we offer two feedings at 11 AM and 2:30 PM daily. Space is limited to six people per feed.
